Sir: Thanks are due to Mr Auberon Waugh for telling the truth about our Ambassador in Washington. How pleasant it is to have in London a steady scholar as Ambassador of the United States; but how typical of our tawdry politicians to have sent in exchange the most facile and most pretentious of media-men. The wisdom of All Souls College in refusing to elect Mr Peter Jay to a Fellowship is now demonstrated.
