Sir Christopher Bland: an apology WE would like to correct
certain aspects of Petronella Wyatt's interview with Sir Christopher Bland ('Bland blows a fuse', 13 November). We accept that Sir Christopher did not shout at Miss Wyatt or otherwise behave in an aggressive or inappropriate manner. The summary on our cover — 'Sir Christopher Bland shouts at Petronella Wyatt' — was therefore unjustified. We also regret that we wrongly attributed certain remarks to Sir Christopher. He did not say, in relation to presenters, 'It's good for them to be afraid'; nor did he refer, in the context of life in the pre-television age, to 'bear-baiting and prostitutes'. Finally, Sir Christopher maintains, contrary to the impression we gave, that he watches plenty of tele- vision and said as much to Miss Wyatt. We apologise to Sir Christopher.
