General Trenehard's despatch on the w ork of the Independent
Air Force was published on Thursday. He revealed the difficulties which his little force had to OVOR01110 in making the long raids into Germany, and incidentally stated that the large e.eroplanee designed for the bombartituent of Berlin did not arrive in France till the end of October, and were not ready for action till three days before the armistice was signed. Berlin thus escaped punishment, but the Rhine towns, especially Mannheim, suffered severely. General Trenehard holds that the moral effect of bombs from the air is twenty times as great as the material effect ; most Londoners, from their owns experience, will agree with him.
