HEDGE CARE
In the successful care of a hedge there arc two main months for putting things in order— May and September. Hollies and laurels are best trimmed with a knife, but privet, box and small-leafed sorts of hedge have to be cut with shears. Renovation by drastic cutting back in a privet hedge often saves a good part of the garden being deprived of light, and the hedge seems to like it.
