Mr. COBDEN has begun upon the agricultural districts of Scot-
land the process which he has so successfully carried on in Eng- land, and has induced Haddington to declare for Free Trade. Indeed, that omnipresent body " the League" was already in Scot- land, and he found the farmers of Haddington Free-traders ready- made to his hand. They recognize in rackrents the most conspi- cuous fruit of "protection." This, however, was his first appeal to the Scotch agriculturists since the commeneement of the new
agitation, and it has been eminently successful. "
