Cathedrals and Cloisters of the Isle de France. By Elise
Whit- lock Rose, with illustrations from original photographs by Vida Hunt Francis. 2 vols. (G. P. Putnam. 21s. net.)—This work is
more discursive than the one we have just been considering, and instead of constructive details gives us historical and local inci- dents. A remarkable feature of the book is the excellence of the photographs which illustrate it ; the power of choosing pictorial aspects of the architecture and the choice of lighting show an unusual capacity; indeed, these illustrations form the most important part of the book.
