We are further told that the Assembly is at present

acting as a restraining influence on the military, but it will insist on the removal of all the Manchu prerogatives, including military control and the disbandment of all the Manchu corps through- out the Empire. The abolition of the Manchu pensions after one year's notice will also be insisted on as well as the aboli- tion of the eunuchs and the discarding of the pigtail on the one band and of the distinctive Manchu dress on the other. The Assembly aspires to create a Constitution on the model of the British.
