Coram's children
Sir: I accidentally omitted one sentence from my piece on Captain Thomas Coram CA foundling father to our children', 21 October). The gist of it was that (as in the present attitude to child benefit) child welfare in Britain has been always 'the toil of Sisyphus' and that a very detailed account of Georgian pioneers in this field can be best obtained from the disting- uished study, Coram's Children by Ruth M. McClure (Yale, 1981). I am sorry that my indebtedness to this book appeared not to have been acknowledged.
