THE ANTI-APARTHEID MOVEMENT Sta,—Mr. Dennis Brutus, President of the Non-
Racial Olympic Committee (SANROC), escaped to Swaziland from South Africa in order to represent his organisation at the meeting of the International Olympic Committee in Baden-Baden in mid- October. Mr. Brutus on his way to Europe was arrested by the Portuguese secret police in Mozam- bique and was returned to the South African police who took him to Johannesburg. He has been shot by a South African policeman and is now detained under the ninety-day 'No Trial' Act.
The Chairman of SANROC, Mr. John Harris, was also prevented from travelling to Baden-Baden when the authorities confiscated his passport in Durban. The Anti-Apartheid Movement has cam- paigned for the suspension of the South African Racialist Party from the International Olympic Committee and is now hoping to send a representa- tive to Baden Baden, particularly since Mr. Brutus will not be there.
Contributions to meet the travel expenses ot the representative and the cost of literature to be dis- tributed at the conference should be sent directly to the Anti-Apartheid Movement, 15 Endsleigh Street, London, WCI.
