Sir: What a great deal of wisdom the majority of
African leaders had as reported in the West Africa issue of 21 September about the OAU Summit!
They supported Nigeria's war against Biafra and condemned countries which allowed colon- ialism to interfere in 'independent African countries' affairs.' I wonder if such leaders ever heard Lord Shepherd say in the British House of Lords in February, 1968: 'It is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to found a single Federal Nigeria.' With this aim in view Her Majesty's Government pours in all forms of destructive weapons into Nigeria to kill off Biafrans so as to keep Nigeria 'single and Federal.' Does this, to the African Fathers assembled at Algiers constitute interference in an independent African country's affair? If it does, why did they fail to condemn Nigeria for allowing British 'colonial' power to inter- fere in Nigeria's own 'internal affairs' by de- bating it in the House of Lords and by supply- ing arms?
