Lapse of memory

Sir: The image of the fearless Mr Al Fayed, so squeaky clean that he has never had a parking ticket, the champion who will carry on revealing the truth even if such a course carries personal risks, raises much merri- ment in the office of the Prolife Alliance. We saw him do a very quick U-turn, with- drawing all offers of financial support to our party, when a mere 25 ladies from the National Abortion Campaign picketed his store. Mr Michael Cole, his omnipresent spokesperson, has, however, a different explanation for the sudden change of heart; Mr Al Fayed never made any offers in the first place. Not only fearless — also forgetful.
