The municipal elections in France have resulted in the dismissal
of hosts of mayors. A mayor does not lose his office if not elected to the municipal council, but it is usually a point of etiquette to resign, and the changes have this year been numerous. In one district, Nogent-sur-Seine, out of fifteen mayors only three have been returned, in Valenciennes seven have been rejected, in the Canton de Monteuq the same number, and so on' tilt over the country. The rejections are in_ almost all instances political, and the electors are evidently beginning to use their privileges with a purpose. They are educating themselves to vote independently for members of the Corps Legislatif.
