Sir: My attention has been drawn to last week's issue
of your journal and, in particu- lar, to the article by Alasdair Palmer.
Sir James Mislcin and your home affairs editor would be better dealing with facts and not posturing, though the judge at least had the excuse of Alzheimer's disease which killed him shortly after. If he thought I would be erased from the Medical Regis- ter, he was wrong, and your journal is more wrong today. There are a number of false- hoods in your reference to me in the article which I feel no pressure to pursue, but one is a glaring example of poor factual research and tabloid journalism which I do require corrected.
In fact, I was suspended from practice at a public hearing for 18 months, which was widely reported at the time and caused no press or public comment such as you are now trying to create. That I would return to practice at the end of that suspension was clear from the moment of imposition. I have never been one of the doctors returned to the Register after erasure and hence your remarks are wholly inaccurate in my case, and I suspect equally unreliable throughout the article.
I expect you to correct this publicly as soon as possible.
