Vazillating
From Mr Robert W.G. Dyce Sir: How right is Tam Dalyell when he con- cludes that politicians who embark on mili- tary action have a duty to sustain their con- cern CA game of soldiers', 29 July).
I wrote to Keith Vaz, MP, Minister for Europe, recently about the continued clo- sure of the River Danube international waterway, and the continuing economic damage being inflicted on non-belliger- ents, including Romania, Bulgaria, Hun- gary and Ukraine. (The cost to Romania alone is now in the region of £750 mil- lion.) All the North Sea/Black Sea link contin- ues to suffer for an action of questionable legality which misjudged the opposition and failed to achieve its objectives.
Mr Vaz reports that there will be no assistance for reconstruction in Serbia while Milosevic remains in power. He is nevertheless content to allow Dortmund and Vienna to assist Novi Sad, their twin town. Is this not like expecting the pro- ceeds of a few coffee mornings to correct the financial plight of the NHS?
