St a.- Christopher Booker's reference to the Daily Telegraph's obituary of Sir Winston Churchill as 'scrappy' is puzzling.

His single sentence quotation makes it clear that he was referring to what is called in Fleet gtreet a 'news obituary'--a restatement of the main facts of a man's life. Our main tribute to Sir Winston was a sixteen-page supplement, issued with the Paper and containing a 10,000-word appreciation by Sir Colin Coote, the former editor of the Daily Telegraph, who had known Sir Winston personally for forty years. Mr. Booker ignores this supplement.

Mr. Booker might also have noticed the twenty- four-page colour supplement on Sir Winston which was announced on the same day. This was published oil Wednesday to coincide with the first day of the lying-in-state. If Mr. Booker had to finish his article before Wednesday, he would have been welcome to a copy.
