The most notable item in the list of Birthday Honours
is
the Garter conferred upon Lord Kitchener. That is the appropriate answer of the Government to those who have attempted to destroy the nation's confidence in the Secretary of State for War. Quite apart, however, from this, Lord Kitchener thoroughly deserves inclusion in the greatest of all the Orders of chivalry. We can join whole-heartedly in the congratulations which are pouring in upon him. Only two new peerages are created, that conferred upon Sir French, Bertie, British Ambassador in Paris, and that upon Sir Muir Mackenzie, principal secretary to the Lord Chancellor.
