Mr. George W. E. Russell has collected in The Spirit
of England (Smith, Elder, and Co., 5s. net) a number of articles contributed by him to the Daily News since the outbreak of the war. A few instances of the titles of some of the chapters will give an idea of the scope of Mr. Russell's subject. Thus he writes upon "A Spiritual Liberation," " War and Religion; "Patriotism," and "The Moral Discipline of War." On all these themes, and many like them, Mr. Russell speaks with the sincere feeling which is to be expected from him.
