Sir John Sandys, whose three-volume History of Meseta! Scholarship is

the standard work upon the subject, has now written A Short History of Classical Scholarship (Cambridge University Press, 7s. 6d. net). The new book is upon a greatly reduced scale, and is intended for the student rather than for the advanced scholar.
