TWO QUOTATIONS SIR,—The first of the two pieces of verse
quoted by your correspondent Mr. Gardom was written during the first months of the 1914 War by J. C. (later Sir John) Squire. As I recall it, the quotation ran thus: God heard the embattled nations sing and shout Gott strafe England and God save the King; God this, God that, and God the other thing.
'Good God,' said God, 'I've got my work cut out!'
