The accounts from the North of Italy represent the Liberal

party as still dominant. In the Legantine towns especially, no effectual opposition has yet been offered to them : a party is even said to have marched upon Rome. The importance, how- ever, of our own matters this week, gives us little room to dwel on the possible downthrow of a Pope.
