Old Cookery-Books and Ancient Cuisine. By W. Carew Hazlitt. (Elliot
Stock.)—This is a book of pleasant gossip on a subject which is not easily exhausted, and which can hardly fail to be interesting.
Mr. Hazlitt, indeed, digresses considerably, makes suggestions as to modern wants, and notices now and then modern worthies,—Alexia foyer, for instance, and the admirable Mies Acton. His book is not the worse for that. Of cones, it is a long way from being exhaustive " Ancient cuisine," indeed, fully treated would require almost as much space as "ancient history;" but it is good as far as it goes.
