Spectator's Notebook
T HAD planned a full day for Monday. A regu-
lar busy bee of a day. Rise and Shine. Deal with my correspondence. Leave to catch the 10.10 a.m. plane from London Airport to Glas- gow. Lunch and a speech in Glasgow. Fly back in the late afternoon. Meetings in the House of Commons. Vote in the division on the civil aircraft industry. More work. Sleep.
It didn't work out. For (I think) the first time in my life I missed a plane. I allowed, for the journey by road in a fast chauffeur-driven car from my home in Potters Bar round part of the North Circular Road to London Airport, ten minutes longer than the flight time from London to Glasgow. One hour and thirty perishing minutes it took me and I arrived just before take-off and after the flight had closed. Oh Marples, come back! All is forgiven.
