Financial premium
Sir: I was alarmed to read on the subject of John Bryan's activities as a financial adviser (City and suburban, 29 August) that, while some argue that he has exceeded the bounds of self-regulation with regard to the Duchess of York, others 'robustly maintain he has done no more than financial advis- ers usually do to their clients'.
It took me back to my first day in stock- broking in the mid Sixties when the senior partner gave me just one piece of advice on starting my career. It was never to sleep with any of my clients.
It seems grossly unfair to those of us who give financial advice but who are past our prime physically, if the role of the financial adviser is perceived to have widened to embrace Mr Bryan's activities. It puts a pre- mium on youth as opposed to experience.
I call on the financial regulators who so closely control every other aspect of our relationship with clients to clarify matters.
