Violence in schools
Sir: What an amazing letter from Mr Nicholas waiter (November 22)!
Does he not realise that it is because teachers ha"ie stopped using 'violence' against pupils that PnPisf now use it against teachers? The conception 0' discipline which caused teachers to hit pupils wastln,e of the factors which contributed to making twr, Walter's school 'good'. It was such a conception 0' discipline which helped to create an ethos in which he could be well educated. Presumably Mr Walter would argue, on the santet grounds as he explains pupil violence, that the recent increase in kidnapping is due to the fact Oa. criminals have began to be aware of, and react against, the way in which the representatives of the law are always kidnapping (le arresting and imprisoning) them.
