Diplomats' pay
SIR: Two small points for the "archive of information" which you wish to build up about the pay of diplomats:
(a) A diplomat pays full income tax on his salary, whether he is serving at home or abroad. His allowances are taxed when he is at home, but only partially when he is abroad.
(b) Education for people serving abroad is paid for not only by HM Government but also by most major British firms.
You may like to correct the mis-statement on (a) on page 655 of your issue of November 22. Oscar Morland The High Hall, Thornton-le-Dale, Pickering, Yorkshire.
