Onwards and upwards

Sir: How heartening it was to discover that Mrs Thatcher takes no notice of Paul Johnson's advice, (`Open letter to an Iron Lady', 29 June) to remain in the House of Commons.

I would give anything to be there when he tries to explain to her what he really meant by saying she would be 'out of the game, finished, politically dead', if she left the Commons.

Might he be persuaded to write a similar letter to Mr Neil Kinnock?
