We have described the situation in Ireland at length elsewhere,
but we may add here 'a few of the latest details. A battle which had been going on between the regular and the irregular forces of the I.R.A. at Kilkenny came to an end on Wednesday night. The whole town had been occupied by the irregulars in rebellion against the Free State and their stronghold was Lord Ormonde's house, Kilkenny Castle. Fighting took place in the castle, but at nine o'clock the Free State Forces gained a complete victory and the irregulars surrendered. We sincerely hope that no injury has been done to the pictures at Kilkenny Castle. There are pictures by Holbein, Vandyck, Lely, Murillo, Correggio, Tintoretto and Cuyp. This success should encourage Mr. Collins to go forward and suppress similar risings. It must never be forgotten that the majority of the population help the side 'of which they 'are less afraid. If Mr. Collins can get the rebels on the run in the field, he will- find that he will also enjoy an access of political strength.
