A Thought from South Africa
Sit,—The letter from Miss Prince, of Cape Town University. was really the end. I am a non-Socialist, and therefore opposed to Mr Wilson, also, for my sins—and largely by accident—quite outside eight campaign medals, picked up live medals for so- called gallantry: so at least I have no reason to defend the Prime Minister. But, surely. anybody who fought the war for freedom against Nazism. can see the incipient fascism of Ian Smith's regime. And, also, however nice some of them personally might be. his government is, whether we like it or not, a government of traitors. This should have been made a Commonwealth matter; in which case, UDI would have been des- troyed in six weeks. But now, learning from his mistakes, Mr Harold Wilson is showing great generosity and great magnanimity in being willing to start discussions. Let every Englishman acknowledge that single fact.
