One Cheer for Europe
Sts,--As a frequent visitor to your country, may I agree with your statement that the way your Government is going about coming into Europe there is-a real risk (perhaps from its point of view a well- founded hope) that you will miss the bus altogether. One interpretation of the present activity is that your Government is throwing up as large a smoke screen as possible to cover lack of movement. Since entry into Europe is now advocated by both your leading parties, Mr Wilson should, if he is sincere, remove the subject from the sphere of party politics by agreeing with Mr Heath the nomination of a Conservatve Assistant Minister for Europe (or whatever would be the correct title) so that a bi- partisan policy could be followed from now on.
This more than anything would convince Euro- peans of your Government's earnest wish to join us in the Common Market.
