Idiocy with style
From Mr Carlo Ungaro Sir: I feel that I have to respond, albeit a few days late, to Nicholas Farrell's article on Italian television Pox wallies', 8 April).
I do not dispute the absolute idiocy of most of our programmes. I would, however, find it interesting to investigate whether our programmes are essentially more idiotic than their counterparts in, say, Germany or even the United States, There is a greater quantity of idiocy on Italian airwaves, but it is idiocy with style.
I further feel that it's unfair of Mr Farrell to criticise the glitches on our news pro- grammes: as a devotee of BBC World, I can assure you that there are as many glitches per news day there as on RAI TV. I feel that they are a sign of civilisation and pre- fer BBC World to CNN because of the lat- ter's jack-booted precision, presented by newsreaders wearing tight, hysterical smiles to indicate how relaxed they are. I would venture to suggest that a glitch a day keeps your shrink at bay.
