Moles
Sir: Mr Kavanagh (Life and letters, 23 August) need not despair. There was an old Norwegian farmer who left his tractor out on his field with the engine running. When frugal neighbours pointed out the waste of fuel he showed them the flexible hose. He'd fitted one end to the exhaust pipe and stuck the other down a mole hill. Half an hour cleared the field for a season, so he said.
