Church macintoshes

Sir: As one who does not wish to see the severely limited role permitted to women in the RC liturgy subjected to any further restrictions, could I ask James Michie to clarify one point made in his article (17 March)? When he observed ladies in Macintoshes handing out the host in a London church, was it his sartorial or his sexist sensibilities that received the greater offence? In other words, would it have been all right if the sacrament had been dispensed by men in macintoshes? J. A. Taylor
