RACE WINNERS

THE case of Mr Ray Honeyford, the Bradford headmaster, hounded by 'anti- racists' because of articles he wrote criticis- ing 'multi-cultural' education, is succinctly summarised in a new pamphlet by Andrew Brown (Trials of Honeyford, problems in multicultural education, Centre for Policy Studies, £3.90). The case of Jasmine Beck- ford, the black baby killed by her step- father while in the 'care' of Brent social services — is discussed at greater length in the report published this week by Mr Louis Blom-Cooper. It says something about the power and attitudes of public authority today that Mr Honeyford, who did no more than express an opinion out of turn, has been forced out, while Gunn Wahl- strom, the social worker who managed to visit the Beckford family 78 times without noticing that there was anything wrong with Jasmine, remains at her post. But then of course, Mr Honeyford is a 'racist', and Brent social services are `anti-racist' that is why they returned Jasmine to the man who killed her.
