LETTERS United islands
Sir: Bravo, Stan Gebler Davies! It is time that a Conservative and Unionist was returned to Dail Eireann. That something so sensible has not been attempted in `more than 60 years' illustrates the contrast between the docile acceptance by Southern loyalists of separation from Great Britain and the obdurate nationalism of a North- ern minority. This contrast, taken for granted, has made it appear reasonable to campaign for the raising of the tricolour over Stormont Castle but absurd to seek to hoist the Union flag over Dublin Castle.
It might be encouraging for the candi- date in Cork South-West to know that in university debates in Cork, as later in Dublin, I have, with student and other supporters, carried pro-Unionist motions.
You reproduce Mr Gebler Davies's elec- tion address under the heading 'United Ireland, United Kingdom'. Only through United Islands could there be a United Ireland.
