There seems to be a general impression that German policy
now is to make the inundations around Nieuport and Dixrunde an excuse for not attempting anything further on the sea road, but to concentrate all their forces upon breaking through in the more southerly portion of the Flanders line, where they detect, or think they detect, weakness on the part of the Allies. No doubt they will try to do this, but we see no reason to think that they will be successful. In that case, the question will remain, "What will the Germans do next? Go on bleeding themselves to death in attacks, or fall back to positions which will need less men to defend ?" Time only can show.
