THE COMMON MARKET

8111,—Mr. Correlli Barnett writes: 'For. Britain to turn her back on Europe and European problems

• • • would be an act of political blindness and Moral cowardice, etc. etc.' Strong words. Is anyone really suggesting that she should? If ...In this campaign we are free-traders. That means

we want to reduce and eventually remove the discrimination that at present exists in favour of

the Commonwealth, i.e., Imperial Preference, and then remove the discrimination that will remain in including of home producers against foreigners, Including Europe, i.e., Protectionism.

r, This is not turning our backs on Europe, it is -Pening doors that are at present locked. There is, however, no single argument that I have ever heard in favour of introducing discrimina- tion in favour of our competitors in Europe and against our suppliers ir, the rest of the world.

The sentimentality is all on the side of the Common Marketeers up to now.
