Mr. Lloyd George must prove his political good faith by
telling us exactly and in unmistakable terms upon which side he is going to be in the future. The country is tired of first a rush to the left, accompanied by a whisper to the Unionists that his concessions really mean nothing, and are only dope to keep-the extremists quiet ; and then a sudden dive to the right, with an equally impressive aside to the Liberals that he is still a firm and unrepentant Liberal at heart. The policy of facing both ways may be successful as a temporary policy, but you cannot live upon it any more than you can live upon cocaine and black coffee.
