Tuesday's Gazette announced that Major-General Sir Charles James Napier had
been appointed by the Queen Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath ; and several officers in the Army and East India Company's service are gazetted as Companions.
The Globe reports that Lord Lowther, the Postmaster-General, has nearly concluded arrangements with the Post-office authorities of Belgium, Holland, Prussia, Austria, Saxony, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Russia, for the transmission of letters and newspapers to and from England and those countries, on the same terms as the recent post-convention with France. These negotiations are expected to come into operation at the commencement of next month.
