Enoch and the Tones
Sir: Although Patrick Cosgrave's arguments are as logical as those of Mr Enoch Powell himself, I cannot agree with his conclusions.
Britain, and her peoples at home and overseas, need Mr Powell to carry on and to complete the task to which he has set himself at great personal sacrifice, namely to get us out of the EEC, and I believe that even he could not accomplish this task from within the Tory party. Those of us who 'want out' at any cost (and those of us who voted Labour for the first time were, and are, well aware just how great the cost may be!) are a very mixed bag and are not yet by any means sufficiently united to win the referendum when it comes. Against us, those with vested
interests in keeping us in the EEC provide the European Movement with vast resources for its 'research' (vide Mr Wistrich's outrageous reply to Mr Douglas Jay) and only Mr Powell can give us the quality of inspired leadership which can unite us all for an ultimate success.
When Norway had her opportunity, the 'antis' were equally mixed, and they succeeded only because they sank their differences and diversities for the common cause. We must likewise unite, whoever we are — Left-wing Labour, evangelical Christians, National Front, Social Credit, British Israel, League of Rights, Common Law Defence, etc — and bury those things that divide us until the spectre of European Union and One World (in chains!) is buried for ever.
