From Patricia Tryon Sir: On 11 March I was flying
from Chicago to London. In the lounge I noticed someone — not a lame nun — behaving in a way that made me wonder about the person's intentions. Gate staff, rather than simply accepting my report, delivered to me a stern and prolonged lecture on the evils of racial profiling and constitutional rights, which they apparently extend even to people who are not American citizens.
They did, however, attempt to prevent me from telephoning family members before I boarded the flight to describe what I had seen and attempted to report, and they held me back from boarding to conduct a thorough search of my luggage and an embarrassingly intimate inspection of my person in full public view.
I guess they showed me who they think is dangerous.
