The Italian people have been taught to forget these great

rewards and to believe that they were promised vast colonial territories which have since been denied them by France and ourselves. They were not promised colonial territories, they were merely promised frontier rectifications, and these were given. Article 15 of the Treaty of London promised them "some equitable compensation" in regard to the frontiers of their own colonies. The most important of these adjustments was the transfer to Italian Somaliland of the Jubaland area of Kenya Colony. That assuredly was something more than "some equitable compensation."
