There was no lack of critical acclaim either.

of The White Horseman (paired with a second short novel, Beneath the Flood) by Theodor Storm, and Ede Briest by Theodor Fontane, translated into Eng- lish for the first time. The programme for 1963 fore- sees publication of one of the novels by Queiroz, The Relic, and another Gald6s, Dona Perfecta, in a new translation.
