We must give credit where credit is due, and there's no doubt that the Liberals worked up a very creditable schwerpunkt in many areas during the local elections. On Saturday morning I turned off the North Circular Road and came south-east through the Hampstead Garden Suburb. Win- dow after window sported the Liberals' yellow sign. Just how `radical' is all this, I wondered, as I have constantly wondered throughout this latest revival? I have not the remotest doubt myself that this is a Right-wing phenomenon. Not that it lacks its comic side. Near Belsize Park Station one can see each morning a certain parked car. For weeks it had in the back window a sign pro- claiming 'Commonwealth before Common Mar- ket.' Last week that poster came off and another one was stuck on saying `Vote Liberal.'
