Look outside London

Sir: Bruce Anderson believes that 'we may be having too much of a good thing' because 'in London, new galleries and restaurants seem to open every day, plus shops which sell teddy-bears and nothing else' (Politics, 5 July). One expects that sort of narrow London view from our new city- oriented government but not from The Speccie.

If Mr Anderson would like to research randomly selected but in this order Bradford, Aberdeen, Liskeard, Lanark and Stowmarket, he might learn something about economic reality around the country. And he might deduce the country's opinion of his comment.
