Gentle school

Sir: May I correct the entirely erroneous report by Alan Watkins (Diary, 28 April) about the Civil Service College? We do not use any of the dubious training methods referred to. On the contrary, our approach is entirely supportive of students and aims to build up their confidence along with their knowledge and skills. There is no 'rough treatment'; students damage neither their health nor their marriages by attendance at our Sunningdale and London centres. Our customers in departments, who pay for courses in interviewing, are aware of our • approach to training; both students and managers are well pleased with the quality and demand is high.
