Bible bashing

Sir: How I agree with Charles Mosley's protest (Letters, 21 April) against the Vowing trend in the Spectator. Why should readers of the Spectator, whether Roman Catholic, Protestant or atheist, have to pay a subscription to read a dull sermon by the Bishop of London, packed with pious banalities and cliches? I am a subscriber to the Catholic Tablet, but I do not expect to read in it sermons by the Bishop of Liverpool (God forbid) or even by Cardinal Hume. The Spectator has earned the reputation of being the best written weekly in England. Is piety now going to take the Place of style?
