'Miss Dorothy Hartley, is one of the best mediaeval anthologies that we have seen for a long time, but it has one irritating omission—very few sources of quotation are given. Scholars may recognize many of them, and Mr. George Saintsbury's introduction gives a few others, but the more the ordinary reader enjoys what the editor calls "a roping Of lore and a

handful of learning" the more tantalized he will be. •
