Now British Columbia, the neighbourhood of Vancouver, and not least,

Vancouver Island, as well as the scenic glory of the Rockies and Selkirks, is a paradisal country. The Okana- gan Valley is better for growing fruit than Evesham or Wisbech or Canterbury because the crops are more regular. Apples are less prone to what may be called the biennial habit, which is the chief drawback to the Blenheim and the Cox in most English orchards. The accounts of an orchard in my neigh- bourhood—not peculiarly good for fruit—vary over a long series of years between 30s. and £90. But when all allowances are made, it is an established fact that the English Climate is well suitable for growing the best dessert apples ; and such experts as Mr. Bunyard (most charming of writers) amd Mr. Seabrook (most convincing of advisers) have proved that the growing of such apples is economically sound.
