COURTAULDS.

The increasing interest taken in the great business of Courtaulds was evidenced by the crowded gathering of share- holders which attended the recent meeting at the Great Hall at Winchester House, while the continued prosperity of the . Company, as shown in the Annual Report, was emphasized by the character of the Chairman's speech at the meeting. As is not infrequently the case when all is going well, the proceedings were comparatively brief, and certainly the address of Mr. Samuel Courtauld was of a cheerful character. The Chairman of -Courta.Ulds was evidently by no means unmindful of the probability of increased competition, bringing about a lower level of prices and a lower margin of profits, but he was very confident in his belief that in this case increased competition had no menace for Courtaulds. -
