ROADSIDE ,,SIGNS

[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] • Sin,—A recent correspondent drew attention in your columns to the disfigurement of the cramtrylide-eaused - by roadside advertising placards. . • . Among the worst offenders in this respect are hotel and garage proprietors. Wherever one travels by English country roads, one meets :within_ the last few miles of approach to town or village, hoardings telling one where to stay, or where to " fill up" the car.

If an understanding could be come to among motorists to avoid, where alternatives exist, hotels and garages advertised in this unsightly way, the objectionable practice would die out—particularly if the offending persons were made to realize NELSON ROOKE.
